When you post a link on social media, unless you’re pointing them to a website that you designed, you have no idea if anyone is actually clicking it!
For this reason, we’d like to introduce you to Bitly, a free link-shortening tool to improve your productivity. In (um) short, “link shortening” takes your long links like this one:
and turns them into a much neater version that points to the same thing, like this:
You’ll also be able to customize the part after the forward slash (in this example, the “2igS2QP”) to something even friendlier, like replacing it with something like “AdventureSocial”.
Aesthetics aside, Bitly also hides a very powerful tool right in plain site: link metrics. As long as you’re logged into your Bitly account when you create a short link, you’ll have access to basic metrics like how many clicks the link received, where they were referred from (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), and even where geographically they visited from!
This is one of those services that makes us go “😱 How have we not been using this since the beginning!?”
